Legal Approaches to substance/drug abuse

One of the reasons why drug and substance abuse is so prevalent in our society is because anybody who knows that somebody in the family is suffering from this addiction immediately goes into a state of denial.

The first response is "of course not, my husband/son, no, he is definitely not an alcoholic.  He just does a little bit of social drinking," and then when the patient dies of cirrhosis of the liver, the immediate response is,” that is amazing, for a person who never drank to excess, this sudden death seems surprising.  He must have died of a heart attack."  Therefore, we console ourselves.  The state of denial extends to the patient, who considers himself definitely not an alcoholic, because he can take it or leave it.  He prefers to take it whenever he can, but he is not going to accept the fact that he is a confirmed alcoholic.

You had better believe it.  A majority of us are not willing to accept that anybody among our own family Circle is suffering from drug or substance abuse.  After all, it reflects badly upon our own family circle, traditions and upbringing.  That is the reason why nobody really bothers about the legal approaches to drug or substance abuse, unless matters come to a sorry pass.  That is because the person takes an illegal drug.  He gets it from an unlicensed distribution network.  Many governments have banned these controlled substances and are trying their best to enforce drug enforcement rules.
