Rehab: TWO-FOLD NATURE (Drug Dependency)
Nowadays, the term substance abuse is being used instead of the term drug abuse. Substance abuse does not mean that a dependency upon drugs, but can be a blanket term for dependency upon any substance, which is harmful to the body. This includes alcohol, opium, drugs, medicines, and any other substance, which comes under the category of something, which is addictive and harmful to the body.
Drug dependency means that when you start depending upon the drug to make sure that you can go through the day. Many people in the 1960s thought that cocaine was a safe drug, because the moment they took it, their mind worked quite clearly.
They considered this drug to be a non-addictive drug. They were quite wrong, because the physiology of the brain changed in such a manner because of cocaine abuse that they slowly and steadily became dependent upon cocaine to do their thinking for them! That is the reason why drug dependency is a matter that is troubling the medical profession all over the world.
Drug dependency can be physical as well as psychological. It begins when a person persists that he is not suffering from any substance abuse problem. Nevertheless, he cannot function properly without the use of drugs and alcohol, because repetitive and compulsive use has made his body accustomed to an intake of that particular substance. The patient is going to suffer from withdrawal symptoms when the use of that particular drug is stopped. There are plenty of rehabilitation centres all around the world, where anybody suffering from drug abuse and drug dependency can be cured slowly and steadily.
